The river is open for whitefish, fishing for whitefish that is. Whitefish are salmonids and feed on salmon and steelhead eggs when available…they also feed on fly eggs in the form of maggots. A little fly tipped with a maggot (fly larvae) can provide alot of fishing fun in the winter around here. You must use a hook of size 14 or smaller (that means the space between the hook shank and tip (gap) must be 3/16″ or less), very small hook!! When the weather’s good it can be alot of fun and every now and again a steelhead will take, but they must all be released, even if it’s a hatchery fish. Steelheading is closed!
